Theft or Robbery

Package theft, vehicle break-in, or robbery while on route.

Call First

911 (robbery in progress)

911

What To Do

1

If you are being robbed — comply and stay safe

Do NOT resist. Give them what they want. Packages and vehicles are replaceable — you are not. Stay calm, do not make sudden movements, and do not chase the suspect.

2

Get to safety

Once the suspect leaves, move to a safe location immediately. Lock yourself in the vehicle or enter a nearby business. Do not re-approach the suspect.

3

Call 911

Report the robbery or theft to police immediately. Provide your location, a description of the suspect(s) (appearance, clothing, vehicle, direction of travel), and what was taken.

4

Contact your supervisor

Call your Operations Manager immediately after calling 911. They will coordinate with Senior Management and FedEx.

5

Document what you remember

Write down everything while it's fresh: time, location, number of suspects, physical descriptions, what they said, what was taken, any vehicle information (make, model, color, plate).

6

Do NOT pursue

Under no circumstances should you pursue a thief or suspect. Let law enforcement handle it.

7

Preserve evidence

Do not touch or clean up the area. If your vehicle was broken into, do not touch the broken glass or disturbed packages. Wait for police to document the scene.

8

File a police report

Ensure a formal police report is filed. Get the report number and the responding officer's name and badge number. Your supervisor will need this information.

✅ DO

  • •Comply with the robber — your safety comes first
  • •Call 911 as soon as it is safe
  • •Get a description of the suspect(s)
  • •Write down details immediately while fresh
  • •Preserve the scene for police
  • •Get a police report number

❌ DON'T

  • •Resist or fight a robber
  • •Chase or pursue any suspect
  • •Touch evidence or clean up before police arrive
  • •Confront someone you suspect of stealing packages
  • •Post about the incident on social media
  • •Leave the scene before police arrive (if you witnessed it)

No employee will ever be disciplined for complying with a robber or for prioritizing their personal safety over packages. Report any suspicious activity on your route to your supervisor immediately — don't wait for an incident to happen.
