Workplace Violence
Threats, assault, or dangerous behavior from employees, customers, or others.
Call First
911 (active threat or assault)
What To Do
If there is an active threat — RUN, HIDE, FIGHT
RUN: If you can safely escape, do so immediately. Leave belongings behind. Help others escape if possible. HIDE: If you can't run, hide in a locked or barricaded room. Silence your phone. FIGHT: As an absolute last resort, if your life is in danger and you cannot run or hide, fight with everything available.
Call 911 immediately
As soon as you are safe, call 911. Provide your location, what is happening, and a description of the person (appearance, weapons, direction of travel). Stay on the line if possible.
Verbal threats — de-escalate and disengage
If someone is making threats but has not become physical: stay calm, speak in a low and even tone, do not argue or escalate, create distance, and disengage from the situation. Get to a safe location and report it.
Contact your supervisor
Report ALL threats or violent incidents to your Operations Manager immediately — including verbal threats, intimidation, or aggressive behavior. Do not dismiss any threat.
Do NOT confront the aggressor
Do not try to reason with, physically restrain, or confront a violent or unstable individual. Let law enforcement handle it.
On route — leave the area
If you encounter a violent or threatening situation at a delivery stop, leave the area immediately. Do not complete the delivery. Return to your vehicle, lock the doors, and drive to a safe location before calling your supervisor.
Document and report
After the incident, document everything: what happened, who was involved, what was said, witnesses, time, and location. Provide this to your supervisor and to police.
